What about (slightly chubby) wolf with viscous that, during fall, covers themselves in their saliva and ends up in a cocoon of pure spit (maybe hanging from a tree, maybe not)? Then, come spring, they break open their cocoon of dried gross, fully outfitted with new insect wings.

OR this kind of insane male who has, ever since he left his mate who he simply stopped loving after a while, had this strange growth colored very differently from the rest of his fur on his back. As he went on in life, this growth became bigger, and then he realized it wasn't just a strange tumor. It was actually a small little glob with two parts. One was just a round thing and the other was this tiny head, (duplication) like a newborn puppy. And he went on believing this was his pup, growing from him for some reason. Said "pup" can't talk or anything, but he loves it.
