The passage into this world had mystified and confused her, and even now, Keita was quite unsure whether her paws rested in the lands of the living, or the dead. She had appeared in a forest, wild and untamed, looking as if civilization may have once been here, but had yet been gone for quite many years. It confused her, and at at the same time, made her think.

What was this place that she had suddenly stepped into? Was Chanjask here? Perhaps the spirits had rightly guided her in this direction to find him! The thought of that made her happy, and in that happiness, she had completely forgotten that she had lost her soul shadow, and even completely changed herself. However, wolves did not carry mirrors, and she passed no clear water, so she simply padded forward, determined, yet unknowing.

She would find her friend. She would find Chanjask, and then she would find out what had happened. Had he simply tired of waiting for her, or perhaps he had felt the need to move on prior to her arrival? It didn't really matter the why, but she would find him. Her charcoal paws finally led her to a long, concrete path of sorts, which had hulking objects littered along it, and it was there that she paused, uncertainty coming over her features. Just what was this place anyhow?

The memories of the wormhole portal that had brought her here were still fresh in her mind. She'd arrived in a grassy area. Now, she had traveled to an area with trees. At times, things felt so familiar that she had a hard time believing she was elsewhere, and kept trying to guess which direction to travel in to reach her home-planet pack. It was always a pang of panic when she made the realization of how nonsensical it was, as she was someplace else now. Atlanta was never one to feel frightened, but quizzical she did well.

Atlanda blinked in the sudden sunlight that an opening of trees had created. This was a wooded area, no doubt, with all the amenities of the forest. Birds, squirrels, plants, trees. Everything quite like home. Except for the ominous backdrop in the sky of monstrous tree-mountains and a skyline of nonsensical tree-things with no branches. In fact, they couldn't be trees, they had to be some sort of stone. But where would such a hideous, unnatural thing come from? Surely it could not be an entire living thing, but a collection of things. A dead thing. But if this was what it was like dead, what had it been like alive? She didn't want to know. This was a foreign place, and everything unfamiliar was beyond baffling.

A sound met her ears, something foreign and different, and instinctively, she padded towards it. They were footsteps. A blue thing came into view, having four paws and a tail and two ears. In fact, colors aside, it quite resembled a wolf, just as she was. But the colors were disturbing. No wolf folk from her lands had colors like that. Her eyes fixated on the stranger's back: no wings.

"Did you fall into a pit of tar? What did you do to deserve such treatment? Speak to me, for I am Beta Princess, and as you have no wings, I outrank you. What crime did you commit to be robbed of your element?", Atlanta had never thought to realize that as she was not on her own planet, but a new one, her customs no longer applied, and were quite silly. Might as well try to teach an ant to handshake, as ants had no hands, thus the concept lost and ridiculous.

At the sound of the harsh vocals that were clearly directed to her, Keita turned around, surprise showing on her petite features. Her overlarge ears flicked back slightly as she tried to process what was being asked of her. The speaker was a white wolf, seeming almost too bright of a white to Keita, but perhaps that was just her adjusting to the daylight in this area. She spoke in haughty tones, ones that expected a reply, and a good reply, not some half-attempt at resolving the situation. Unfortunately for Keita, having just come into this area, after quite a long time of travelling, and not really certain what was going on, her answers were likely not going to be suitable.

"I . . . I don't have any wings. I never have." Her voice was soft, almost querulous, still uncertain if she should even respond at all. If Kiiriel had been here, she would help. She looked around suddenly for the snow leopard, and then shook her head. No, she was gone. She had felt the ripping at her soul, and could no longer feel her in her mind. So why would she still look? Turning her deep blue gaze back to the stranger, she took a breath and attempted to try this again.

"I'm Keita. I'm sorry, but I don't recognize your . . . title. Are you from this world? I apologize, but I am new to all of this." As she spoke again, opening her muzzle, she realized that it was longer than she'd remembered herself being. Also, this wolf was larger than she, and though back in Victus, she hadn't been the largest of wolves, but she hadn't been so small as she now felt. It was all so very confusing, but perhaps this other wolf would have some answers. She certainly seemed more sure of herself. Keita offered the other a small, hopeful smile and a tail wag.

The wolf she spoke to proved that it was sentient and an intelligent being, just like Atlanta. This wasn't a mute beast with no ability to speak words. Sucks, Atlanta's hope of revolving her world only around herself had been dashed, for this too was a sentient being. But still the voice that answered told her much. The voice seemed to waver, as if perhaps afraid, and later stating how it was 'new', and giving an apology seemed to Atlanta a form of submissive behavior. This wolf was lowly, certainly not one to lead, like herself. Would Atlanta crush the tender soul, grow it, or simply take it in as a pet?

Atlanta shuffled her shoulders, expecting the rustle of feathers, but when none came, she looked behind her, towards her back. There were no wings. She felt shocked and then sad with the reminder once more that this world was not her previous home.

"I suppose not.", Atlanta replied, her voice only containing a touch of bitterness but mostly defeat. Apologizing did not come easy for her. "Keita. If you are 'new' and 'sorry', surely you must not be from this world. To answer your question, neither am I. I suppose my title and empire means nothing here; I'll have to build new ones.",, she was musing aloud to herself now, though presumptuously, exaggerating her 'eh' position of beta pup back on her planet to something far more meaningful.

"What have you learned then? Since you've arrived, what have you learned?"

"You really ought not to ever apologize or say 'sorry'. On my old planet, it marks you as an insubordinate weakling afraid of any challenge, and content with mediocrity. Since you are new here on this planet, it is a new start, a new life for you. You can be anyone you wish to be. Perhaps you'd rather start a new life where other's don't think lowly of you? Never apologize.". She was testing the waters, coiling up like a snake, deciding whether to strike with venom or with a hug.

Keita had hoped for perhaps a bit friendlier of a greeting, but as the other wolf looked back at herself and then uttered a small sigh of disappointment, she could tell that this one had lost things as well. However, most importantly, she heard that this wolf was new here as well, which brightened her own thoughts a bit. She wasn't the only one!

"I feel a bit relieved to hear that from you. To be honest, I was worried I was the only one lost in this strange land." She smiled a bit more, though she couldn't think of anything interesting she could say about this land. She looked around again, back at the trees and how familiar they seemed, yet different, and then back at Atlanta with a small shrug and another tail wag.

"So far, I've noticed that since I've arrived here, I've lost a few of my powers. Well, most all of them, really. And . . . my body is different. Have you noticed that as well?" She offered up in a bit stronger of a voice, now that she had a bit of a similarity with this other wolf. They were both from different places, and not of this world. Which, in her mind, meant that they should most surely be allies. However, the other's strange instructions to her made her pause a moment. She gave a polite nod, and grinned slightly.

"Where I come from, it does not make you weak to know when it is that you should offer an apology for not knowing something that another assumes you do. I respect your opinion on the matter, however." she offered politely again, not wishing to cause any ill will between them. It was clear that the both of them were lost, in a way, and perhaps they could work together, even if for just a little while, to learn something of where they were.

Dainty. Polite. And blue. The Keita woman kept right on going, her manner of speech implying that she thought of Atlanta as an equal, not a superior. But was it a compliment to be an equal to a wolf who looked like it feel into a vat of toilet cleaner? Was it a compliment to not be thought of as superior?

If Atlanta pushed her superiority onto Keita now, the woman might be offended. Or perhaps it would just break her spirit and this equality Keita felt would fall into servitude. Which wasn't so bad, actually, but it was risky. Here, Atlanta had a source of information who was wiling to talk and spill information. And, if Atlanta wasn't cruel to the creature, she might come back with more information, eventually. Maybe. Atlanta's mind tried to weigh all of the decisions, also weighing in her own need to be right and superior.

"This new place is a new challenge and I intend to conquer it.". She had no desire to discuss such disgusting feelings as worry or relief. "You should join up with me.", she paused, remembering what Keita desired. "As my equal.", then she continued with her speech. "This land is bound to have many more mysteries, and surely many more like and not like us. As with any world, there are bound to be hostilities and dangers. We will keep one another safe, informed, and fed. We are wolves. During the winter when food is scarce and uncertain, we discard our selfish lone wolf entrepreneurial dreams to band together for the good of all. Winter packs provide more food and safety than could possibly be acquired alone with the limited and very competitive resources of the season. Times are uncertain and just as dangerous now. Let us band together."

Atlanta wanted to roll her eyes at the question of bodily differences. That was a speech most often saved for pre-pubescent juveniles. But, Atlanta had proposed equality, and it would be such a shame to break a promise after only a matter of minutes. For now, she'd just have to grit her teeth and bear the burden of doing things she didn't want to do.

"Yes. I was of the Wind Clan, a Wind Mover. When I walk about, I feel nothing, as if the Wind has abandoned me completely. And my wings are gone. I suspect I may look different, but I haven't found any still water to inspect my face yet.", Atlanta paused, and pulled a very serious face. "My testicles are also missing."

"That sounds like something a Leaf Dweller would say back on my home planet. Always striving for equality and peace, insisting that feelings are important and all of it, feelings and differences and opinions, to be respected.", Atlanta didn't mention how things rarely turned out that way back on her home planet, or that her statement was loaded with more of her own feelings of the moment than with truth. In fact, Atlanta could lie all she wanted. Who would be able to tell her that she was wrong or call her out as a liar?

Keita tilted her head as she listened to this other wolf, now that she was regaining some of her senses, she realized that this wolf wasn't entirely friendly to her, but it was almost as if she were simply striving to be so to gain her trust. Whatever the case, the blue and purple wolf would give her the chance, especially when she mentioned teaming up in a pack of sorts. No matter what this other wolf thought of her, Keita knew that wandering alone was far riskier than joining with another. So, she nodded, with a small smile.

"I think that joining with you can only be a boon for both of us. You are correct, a wolf on it's own in such a strange world might fall prey to quite a lot, if they weren't careful." Her voice strengthened quite a bit now, stating that aloud. However, she did stay silent when the other described that she too, had lost things in whatever had brought them here. Even at the comment about testicles, she merely nodded, a slightly intrigued expression on her muzzle. It had not simply been her own world then, there were others out there as well. As strange at it seemed, perhaps this was what made it all make sense. Which of course, meant, that Chanjask, her dear friend that she was searching for, could be here too.

"Perhaps I am a Leaf Dweller, in the terms of your world, then." She said after her long, listening, silence, another smile coming to her muzzle. No, she would not think ill of this other wolf. After all, they did have differences, that was true, but they were both in this world together, so perhaps they both had a lot to learn. Keita did want one more piece of information however. "Before we travel too far, perhaps I could get your name so I know what to call you?"

His wounds were infected and beginning to fester. Blood was still caked to his neck and ran down the length of his right foreleg. Chanjask had not slept in the two days since the rat had attacked him, and it was taking a toll on his health. His body had had no time to recuperate, and if another unfriendly animal chose to attack him now he wouldn't stand a chance.

How am I supposed to survive here?

He'd wondered more than once. But he couldn't think those things. He had to keep going. He had to keep going for Keita, and prove that her faith had not been misplaced.

I'll make it for a few more days, he told himself, Water is nearby. The smell has been getting stronger by the hour.

The trees, it seemed, were finally beginning to relent. They were no longer stood so close together, and were even more welcoming and kind. And because their branches no longer tangled with one another, sunlight shone through the canopy and cast dancing shadows on the forest floor. This was not the only change, for the air lightened as well. It no longer clung to him like the eager claws of the giant rat had, nor were the smells so strong and heavy. Other (more friendly) animals seems to be out and about as well. Chanjask had seen squirrels and heard birds singing songs.

And he heard voices. Two, to be exact.

Chanjask narrowed his eyes and turned his head this way and that to try and see through the break in the trees up ahead. He was quite reluctant to put himself in harm's way again, and did not want to leave the cover of the forest if he did not know what was out there. No matter how he twisted or leaned he could not catch sight of what lay ahead. He pricked his ears and lifted his nose to the air, and strained his tired senses.

Wolves!

He moved as quickly as his damaged body would allow, only a few meters from the edge of the woods. Chanjask's heart pounded hard in his chest and adrenaline surged through his veins.

Just as he was about to reach the end of this living nightmare, Chanjask recognized one of the voices.

Surely my mind plays some trick on me, he thought, his body going numb and growing cold. All the blood seemed to rush from his brain to his paws, causing his mind to go fuzzy and his steps to slow. Every second that passed was an eternity.

Chanjask broke through the trees, and the sight before him forced him to stop in his tracks and his heart to stop.

"Keita?"

Her speech had had some sort of success as the female still remained to chat, and agreed in a detached way to team up. Now, Atlanta was not one, but two strong. Never underestimate the power of the buddy system.

"Atlanta.", she replied. "And you are.. .?"

It seemed that the question wasn't answered by the woman, but by a new voice. Startled, Atlanta turned to see. In the distance, a green and purple wolf approached. It seemed that the woman's blues were outdone by an even more vivid color scheme. If wolves were dressed in pelts like these, would antelopes be neon pink polka-dotted?

The man's colors bothered her, as if he were forcibly pressing her buttons and pushing her patience to the limits. She remembered the white, gray, sometimes light yellow wolves from her home. They'd had wings, but they'd been simple-colored. Here, it just felt like a hallucinogenic mushroom up and pissed on all the creature pelts. Things shouldn't have looked this way, but they did.

Her eyes stopped tracing the patterns in his fur when they caught sight of blood. Atlanta gasped, drew a quick breath, and kept the breath in her cheeks like a chipmunk.

"How did you get that blood all over you?", her words were more of a groan as she struggled to speak without taking in air. Her hair began to stand on end as she became more and more frightened by his blood.

Whether it was his blood or not, either he'd attacked something, or it had attacked him. The last part was what was so alarming. In this new place, and here already there was trouble. Atlanta began to worry if there would be any more wormholes off of this color-diarrhea world where things were uncertain and went bump in the night, back to her safe home full of familiarity and comforts. Or was it dangerous even to have such wistful thoughts here?

Even though she had already introduced herself to this wolf, she was just opening her muzzle to do so again, realizing that perhaps she simply might not have recalled. Atlanta, as she now knew her, seemed to perhaps have a set number of important things that swam in her mind, and perhaps her name was not one of them, well, maybe not just perhaps she thought to herself wryly.

However, the crackle of grass and the scent that suddenly assaulted her nose, caused her head to swivel immediately. It had been subdued by the smells of this new world, and the coppery smell of the blood that caked to his skin, but that could be only one wolf! The one wolf that she had searched for and had almost lost hope that she might ever see again. Hearing her voice from his muzzle made her tail instantly start wagging as her ears perked up happily.

"Chanjask! It's really you! Here, in this world!" Not even noticing Atlanta's sucked in breath and shocked words, she immediately bounded over to her friend, wanting to touch him to make sure he was real. When she did, she shoved her nose into his neck fur, sniffing heavily, and smiled. He was real! This wasn't just a hallucination, the likes that she had witnessed many times in her search. However, in a moment, she drew back to look him up and down a bit critcally.

"What has happened to you? Is that why you did not meet me? Oh dear, it was so fortunate that the spirits led me here to you then!" She rambled on a moment or two before realizing that yes, they were standing in front of another wolf, and she was now being rude. So she turned to smile brightly at Atlanta. "This is my very good friend Chanjask. We had lost one another, you see, and the spirits seem to have led us back together again." That was a good enough explanation wasn't it? Her tail continued to wag, she now in a much brighter mood.

Chanjask only managed a few tired wags of his tail. He blinked slowly at Keita, and then at the other wolf. The white she-wolf's reaction to seeing him made his heart sink a little bit- he hadn't been able to see himself, but Chanjask had a strong feeling that he was in even worse shape than he thought. His brows knitted together and he took a few steps forward before Keita rushed up to meet him. He winced and drew in a sharp hiss of a breath, but tolerated her there for several moments before moving away. The rat had bitten and scratched at his neck, and though the wounds were small and mostly covered by his fur, it stung to have them pressed on. He gave a short look to Keita, and then moved his attention to the other female with narrowed eyes.

"I was attacked by a damn rat," he spat, lifting his injured leg, "While I was sleeping, it came up and started eating me."

He huffed, his lips pulling back from his teeth as he did so. Chanjask would never forget the way the animal's red eyes had glimmered in the darkness, or the mouth full of vicious teeth it had displayed. Chanjask had never seen anything like it before, but judging by the noises he'd heard in the forest, there were probably quite a lot of these vicious animals out and about.

"It was not your typical rat, either," he growled, "It was almost as big as me, in height and length."

Chanjask looked sideways at Keita, and after a moment of looking over his face his eyes widened slightly. She looked different. Did he look different too?

Now's not the time to discuss it.

"I only saw one, but heard many of them in the forest. It may not be safe to linger here overlong."

"If it's not safe then let's keep going.", Atlanta's voice was emotionless now, speaking normally, and assuming that the green wolf would follow.

In truth, she was disappointed. She did not know if they were the first ones here, the first ones in a while, or merely three of a great many wolves already living here. Who else was going to pop out of the forest? Her real concern was that if they were the first, she wanted to be the leader, and now her hopes were dashed, and put into second fiddle by the polite and kind lady who knew the only male around. Worse yet, the two seemed to know one another. Surely they must have been mates where they had been from. It made sense that they would be mates here, as they showed no hostilities. With no mate, she felt she had no hopes of rising to the top; she could not be a single leader of a pair. Or could she? And where did survival fit into her plans of grandeur?

Atlanta made a gesture with her head to begin walking again.

Keita still beamed, even though Chanjask seemed less happy to see her than she him. It didn't matter, not to her. She knew how he was, preferring to hide his emotions, and especially in front of a wolf he had just met. However, they were both right, they should move on, find a safe place, and, looking back at her friend, as he described how he'd gotten his wound, definitely try to get him cleaned up and back on the mend.

"Yes, let's find a safe place, maybe there's some clean water nearby and we can get you cleaned up, too. Otherwise that'll never heal." She frowned slightly at the thought and then nodded again, looking up. Her gaze took her back to the strange . . . solid formation that formed a path over what seemed to be somewhat murky water. Were all of the rivers like this here?

"Let's go over that direction then, there's less forest." She spoke, waiting only momentarily to make sure that Chanjask would continue moving as well, before following herself. She knew nothing of this place ahead that had great hulking . . . structures of some sort, not looking like natural mountains or hills or anything, but seeming at least less dense than the forest where the giant rats lived.

Chanjask was glad there was no argument on the matter. He followed after Keita, his head low and his eyes sick senses alert. He twisted his ears in the direction of any interesting sounds, and he breathed deeply to learn all that he could about his surroundings. Though he looked around as well, he paid the most attention to the second she-wolf. His gut told him that there was something strange about her, and that he did not like her. His time as a scout had taught him to make judgements quickly, but also to not make assumptions. . . he would give her time to prove to him that she was not a threat to him or Keita before making a final decision on her.

AZAHI ROGUE
MALE 4 YEARS
PLAYED BY WILEY

Night had fallen. The sky was covered in thick, heavy clouds. The only sign of the moon was a faint white glow behind the clouds. No stars were visible. It had gotten quite cold- so cold that any small amounts of water had started to turn to ice. For a time, every breath had turned into an icy puff.

Crossing the bridge proved difficult in places. There were large holes and cracks in the pavement, though all of them they had been able to hop over or go around.

Until now. A short ways ahead, Chanjask could see a crack in the pavement that was much wider than the ones that had preceded it. There was no way that Chanjask could have made it across in his current condition.

"We have to stop," he said, his voice an exhausted sigh, "I haven't slept in days and can't cross that."

His heart sank with the admission. In all his life Chanjask had never been a burden, and he certainly did not want to change that now. Yet he knew that even trying to clear that jump now was suicide, and his life was far more important than humiliation.

He pinned his ears back and narrowed his eyes, gritting his teeth and examining the surroundings. Debris from an unknown land was strewn all around them. There was a skeleton of something that had a tangy smell that looked as though it could shelter them for a night. It was almost flat on the ground, except for one round thing that seemed to be holding it up. There was a clear opening facing the inside of the bridge. There were five other openings in the vehicle. Three were much smaller and closer to the roof, and two more went the width of the thing. The inside was practically empty. Chanjask didn't know what it was, but it was cover and that was good enough for him.

"This looks like a safe place to rest," he grumbled, and ducked inside the slightly lop-sided structure. He moved as far as he could from the opening and gingerly put himself down.

DYNROTH ROGUE
FEMALE 3 YEARS
PLAYED BY CHERYLCALICO

As a constituent of this strange, motley group, Keita was mostly concerned with finding a place for them to rest as it was approaching darkness. Mostly for her friend Chanjask, whom she was worried about, but also because she really didn't want either she or Atlanta to fall prey to any of the strange creatures that apparently lurked in these lands.

So when Chanjask suddenly announced intentions to stop, she was glad to do so. She had been worried about him, he had looked very tired. "It is too dark to continue safely, aye." She nodded in agreement. However, the strange structure that he ducked inside of caused her to flatten her overlarge ears slightly in concern. She had never seen it's like before, it seemed to be made out of materials that she had never encountered. At least this strange . . . walkway that she stood on was some sort of stone, even if she couldn't tell what that was. The structure that her friend just ducked into for shelter was something a lot stranger.

"It has to be safer than the forest at least." She too, carefully squeezed herself inside, positioning herself as close to Chanjask as she could without making him uncomfortable, looking around curiously. Suddenly, she felt an unsettling feeling pass through her and she felt slightly sick to her stomach. It wasn't hunger, not yet, anyhow, but she couldn't place it. As the strange feeling came to her, she almost felt as if something was shifting inside of her. Looking to Atlanta and then Chanjask, she blinked, a strange grimace suddenly on her long muzzle.

"Did anyone else feel that? Like a bad wind or something?" Blinking again, she shook her head suddenly as if to rid her from the sensation. This place was very strange, and she wasn't entirely sure she liked it. However if this was where the spirits had led her, then she would try to make the best of it.

DI'SHEI MAGE
FEMALE 3 YEARS
PLAYED BY XEXES

So the green male was tuckered out already? How pathetic. Atlanta realized that he had been here longer than her - whatever happened to him, would happen to her. He was her guinea pig, and this guinea pig as exhausted. Her amusement turned to a deep fear, one that she tried to hide. Getting hurt was not her thing.

"I suppose we can rest.", Atlanta agreed only for the green male's sake. He was her front line, and if anything happened to him, Atlanta would have to take the position if the girl did not. It was like having extra lives in a video game. Assurances. And she needed her extra lives to be healthy. "Your wounds look taxing.", she remarked, hoping he'd start whining about how they hurt, not only to make Atlanta feel proud to be uninjured, but also to hear about how bad it was, and how healthy he was or wasn't.

"I'm tired of these strange things. I hope the creatures that built these are no more. Good riddens.", she backed a few steps and then ran at the car, using her distance to barely jump on top of the vehicle, where she curled up on top of it. It wasn't a graceful jump, but it did the trick. Up here, the wind would be in her fur all night, but at least she wouldn't be underneath or inside of it if something happened.

"No, I didn't feel it. Perhaps you're just tired and easily spooked."

"We'll have to find food soon. If Chanjask has been here the longest and if he is tired, then he will be hungry soon, and so will we. I can't believe in a world where there's no need to eat. Perhaps those giant rats of yours will come back to finish the job and we can attack and eat them.", she was only half kidding. Her head rested on her paws and she did her best to look up at the stars without putting in much effort. Idea!

"As we have no idea where we are, we should try to use everything possible to guide us forwards, or backwards. In the future, we may need to return to some resource we discovered. The stars might help guide us, but only if we can find a way to utilize them. Perhaps that big one, or that other big one...", there were millions of stars, some big, some little, and "that big one" only narrowed it down to perhaps a hundred different choices.

You suppose? Chanjask thought moodily. He hadn't had to know this white she-wolf for long to understand that she thought herself a queen. Keita may have been less sensitive to it or simply had not cared, but he had been under the rule of the likes of her before, and was not interested in being subjected to it again.

His eyes followed Keita as she entered the vehicle. He calmed slightly, just at the sight of her. When she settled near him, he scooted a little closer and let his head rest on her paws while Atlanta continued to speak.

Chanjask slowly took to licking his wound while he mulled these things over, his eyes moving between Keita and the hole in the vehicle they had both entered through. He pricked his ears when he suddenly felt very. . . strange. He noticed a difference in the taste of the air and atmosphere, and was so taken aback that he was about to say something just as Keita had.

"I feel it too," he said to his friend, and then added more quietly, "It makes me feel like I'm going to be sick."

I don't like it here. . . but I didn't exactly like Victus, either.

"Food will come, Atlanta," he raised his voice so that she could hear, and in it there could be heard a slight trace of annoyance, "And that is perhaps the thing we should fear most."

And my wound. . . I worry that a night's rest will not be enough to heal me.

"Getting lost or losing track of resources will not happen. I was a scout in my old land. I found the lost and made it my job to know and remember where things of importance were," he explained with a bored look out an empty window at the cloudy sky. Chanjask had spent much of his life under the canopy of a forest, and had never relied on the stars to guide him.

He pressed his right forepaw to the bottom of the metal skeleton and focused his weak mind on creating an imprint. Chanjask's brows came together in a confused expression when he did not feel the very familiar jolt of energy flow through his arm. Even though he was tired and weak, he still should have been able to perform that simple spell. . .

"Hm. Unfriendly food is perhaps not our greatest concern. It seems I have lost my magic," Chanjask raised his head and pressed his ears back, looking questioningly at Keita.

Keita was not completely blind to the feelings of command and superiority that radiated from Atlanta, however, in a strange land, it was best to give others a chance before completely vilifying them. She listened as the white wolf leapt up on top of this structure to rest, surprised that she didn't feel the strangeness as well. Perhaps her kind, whatever she was, was immune to such things.

The feeling had seemed to pass though, while leaving her still a bit unsettled, and she listened as Atlanta spoke on about food and the fact that they would need to find some soon. She agreed, looking back to Chanjask. He would need energy to heal from his wounds, but now, rest seemed more prudent. She nuzzled the top of his head as she wondered what else she could think of to help.

However, as she continued listening, she noticed as Chanjask attempted to create an imprint and failed, and her own too-large ears flicked back in annoyance. Even though she still felt the spirits guiding her, she had hoped it was simply happenstance that she had not been able to see the auras of anything when she had arrived, but now with Chanjask's effort to attempt to use his power, she knew that things had truly changed quite a bit from where they'd come from.

"It appears that we all have lost some things from the transition from our old worlds to this place. However, perhaps there are things that we have gained as well? Do either of you feel that you might have some different energies about yourself?" This had been something Keita had felt when she had entered the lands. She had felt oddly connected to the earth, and when she'd been in the forest for that brief time, she had almost felt as if she could affect the plants somehow. However, she'd passed that off as a delusion brought on by whatever had brought her here, but now, she was not so sure. Looking back at Chanjask, she frowned at his wound, concerned. There must be some way to aid with that, perhaps there were healing herbs they could find to apply to it. She had never been one that studied those sorts of things back in Victus, but the thought came to her now that she could try.

"Well then, aren't you the boy scout.", it wasn't exactly flirting, nor exactly sarcasm, just something witty that wasn't really witty at all. She was growing tired and cranky. They'd arrived someplace new, left their homes and lives behind, and now had to figure out this place ; all of it with no promise of food or safety.

But one of the things that bothered her the most was the feeling... no, the fact, that she was indeed the third wheel. She was the odd man out, the one that did not belong. She felt it was obvious that these two were a couple, and that icky-sticky feelings of romance and professions of everlasting love, white picket fences, and two-point-five children would follow. The way that they snuggled together was sickening. It wasn't so much that she wanted those things for herself as the fact that it was staring her right in the face, and Atlanta had no one and nothing. These two could easily leave her in the dust to fend for herself. She had to try harder, to be nicer. And 'being nice' was not something she enjoyed doing; she felt it rather comparable to abasement.

"Things could always have been worse. The wormhole could have dropped us off in the sky, each off at a million wolf's height from the ground, and we would have plummeted to a splat. Many of these things are familiar to us, like the trees and grass. The wormhole could have brought us to a pit of molten lava. Maybe we're lucky. ", since when was Atlanta one to be cheery and thankful and nice? Since she feared loosing her entourage and being on her own.

"All I know is that my old powers and appendages are gone.", she replied, a bit sore about loosing something that was a part of her. She had once commanded the wind, and despite her willing it to blow or twirl, even at the greatest efforts, the core of her that had once responded to such things was simply absent. It was as if she were an fruit with a big whole where its insides were. Maybe that hole was empty. Maybe it was filled with worms. Or maybe it was filled with something else.

A sudden panic hit Atlanta. The moment they stopped talking, Keita and Chanjask would get even more cuddly and frolicky. Heck, maybe they'd make babies right underneath her. How crude.

"Anyone want to tell a bedtime story.", she gave her plot a try.

When Keita asked if he had felt anything different about himself, Chanjask only shrugged his shoulders and shook his head a little. It had not been his concern, and any thoughts on the matter were quickly shooed away by Atlanta's next words.

She's a fool.

Chanjask could not entirely agree with Atlanta, though a small and grudging part of him admired her outlook. He would not call the position they were in lucky at all. It was true that there were familiar things all around them. But the differences far outweighed them. What was he resting in now? Before getting in the skeleton, what had they been walking on? And on the other end of the bridge, what was that? Was it also a skeleton? Was it alive? Was is a forest of sorts? He had been attacked by one strange creature, and surely it was not the only one. There were too many unknowns for Chanjask to call himself lucky.

Yes, he could be glad that he had not entered this world in the air or in a volcano. And he could be glad that Keita was here with him. . . sort of. Chanjask was sad that his friend was in this situation, and would have given his life to make sure that she was back home and safe. Worst of all, they were completely without the powers they had known before. They were each weaker than they had ever been.

Atlanta was naive. They were not lucky.

But I am just as bad, for having no hope.

He cleared his throat, resettling himself and giving his wounds several more swipes of his tongue. Once he was prone again, Chanjask looked to Keita with a small smile and said, "Keita is good at telling stories. . ."

And what of mine?

He sighed softly and placed his head across his uninjured leg, "Maybe I'll tell mine later."

Not surprisingly, Atlanta had some comments to make about how it could have been worse. The assertion of the things that could have happened made Keita grin slightly and shake her head. Yes, it might have been worse. Perhaps they would have passed into an even more dangerous area, and had not been able to find shelter. "Perhaps you are right about that, it is fortunate at all that we are in an area where we can even find a place to rest."

She listened, however, after that to what she was asking. A tale of sorts? Well, Keita wasn't necessarily tired, and she really didn't mind talking too much. With a look at her friend, she smiled and nodded to him. It wasn't unusual that he did not wish to speak, so she would be happy to fill the gap.

Touching Chanjask's paw with her nose in acceptance of the idea, and also acceptance of him telling his story when he felt it needed to do so. Thinking for a moment, she then took a deep breath and spoke.

"In Victus, the world where Chanjask and I are from, each wolf has a creature called their soul shadow, it's an animal that holds a piece of your own soul, in a manner of speaking. This animal is your companion and often can serve as a conscience, or an aid in certain paths that a wolf might take." She paused then, feeling sadness for the loss of her own soul shadow. Not having Kiiriel around any longer as a companion and even as a protector of sorts was a bit strange. However, she still had the spirits, and the spirits would help guide her in this new world.

"To claim a soul shadow, a wolf goes out after they turn a year of age with the shaman of their pack, and attempts to battle the animal in a test of wills to convince it that it will become the wolf's soul shadow. Often, it also can turn into a battle of strength as well, should the animal wish to fight against the wolf, and then the shaman must help heal the wolf so that they can survive the effort." She stopped then, feeling that this was a fine enough story to start things out with. She still couldn't get the niggling feeling out of her mind that they needed to find some plants, surely, something they could dig up might help Chanjask's wound.

Perhaps what the two down inside the contraption had really felt was Chanjask's raging testosterone, because he appeared to have become not only grumpy but testy. Either that or he knew what she was up to. Since when did wolves pass up opportunities to talk about themselves when asked? Perhaps he'd done something bad and couldn't get over it enough not to mention it. What if he was a rapist or a murderer or a cannibal? What if the real reason he was testy was because Atlanta was foiling his plans to get inside Keita's tail and then kill her? Not that Atlanta necessarily cared for Keita's saftey but that if Keita died, he'd have to go after Atlanta next, as the only other wolf around - that Atlanta knew about.

She listened to Keita's tale and paused in careful thought. "Well, I didn't see any animals following you around, so does that mean that portion of your soul is missing? How do you know your animal daemon isn't here, waiting for you to find it somewhere? Or, what if you simply need to find a new animal companion to house that portion of your soul, and you can make a new choice all over again. Perhaps this time instead of choosing a squirrel or skunk or whatever it was, you can choose a dinosaur, or a bird made out of fire, or a water elemental spirit.

Then again, you don't appear to be in any hurry or pain or injury. I don't find you to be insane, either. Perhaps you can keep all of your soul here and not worry about your soul container being injured or dying and thus hurting you further. "

Once, one of our tribe went through a wormhole and disappeared. They came back again at the end of their years, reappearing right where they'd vanished before our eyes. They said that they'd gone to a new place with wolves who could fly great distances, even to other stars. He said that most of the planets were gross. Big rocks, or all lava, or just a great big dust cloud. He said that it meant that stars that could support life, with plants to for pray to eat, and prey, air to breathe, and water to drink were extremely rare. So then the odds of us ending up together in this vast universe full of unknown things is astronomical, and by any random, ordinary draw, we should have ended up on planets where we would have frozen, burned, suffocated, or been pressurized to death. "

Atlanta didn't find her own home too interested, but she had to talk about something. She wasn't just about to lay around while Chanjask put the moves on Keita like a foul primate.

Dinosaur? Chanjask wondered. In Victus there were all sorts of unusual creatures, but he had never heard of such a thing before. Perhaps it was something that only existed in Atlanta's land?

"Our souls are broken," Chanjask said, a touch of sadness in his voice as he thought back to his owl friend Nosyris. Before Keita, Nosyris had been his only friend. They had known everything about one another, and his soul shadow had helped him commit his greatest sin.

"That portion of our soul will remain in our soul shadows for as long as they are alive. To claim a soul shadow is dangerous, as Keita said. It often requires a shaman, or someone of immense magical strength. Splitting the soul in to three would also be dangerous, and is rarely done by anyone of sound mind," he explained all these things slowly, his eyelids growing heavy as sleep started to whisper into his ears, Chanjask would never attempt to put a portion of his soul in another creature again. It was an intimacy he wanted to share with only one other. Even if he never saw Nosyris again, he would forever remain his faithful friend.

His mind began to wander to the other things Atlanta had spoken of. . . he could not imagine flying through the stars and landing on other planets. Chanjask could not even imagine flying. None the less, he thought that if he had had that opportunity, he would not have gone back to wherever home was. With such extraordinary power. . .

With such extraordinary power, Chanjask would have destroyed his past and never would have been hung up on it in the first place.

"I killed my father," the words tumbled out of his mouth easily. This secret that he had so carefully guarded sounded like nothing more than a passive greeting. Keita was the only one here who knew him, and Chanjask knew that, even if she found this news troubling, she would still stand by him. Back in Victus, he had been terrified of being vilified by his pack. He had murdered to avenge the man that was meant to be his father, to avenge his mother, and to avenge himself. That was a grey area in a world that Chanjask felt was very black and white. But here, none of that mattered. He was his own master now.

"My uncle raped my mother after she lost her mate. When she gave birth to his pups, she killed them all but me before she died herself," Keita had seen this in a dream of his that she had walked in on, "I was raised by who I thought was my uncle. After about a year, I found out what he really was and I killed him."

Memories briefly flashed before his mind's eye- mainly Bogwen's teeth ripping in to his left shoulder, and Nosyris's shrieks and flapping wings.

"He's why I limp," Chanjask finished blandly, his words absent of any emotion. With a heavy sigh, he closed his eyes for the night.

"Yes. She is missing." Keita said, sadness coming into her tone at that admission. Kiiriel would never return, and that piece of her soul would be gone forever, she knew that. However, she still had Chanjask, so at least not all was lost. She hoped that the snow leopard had found herself a nice place to live now that she had gone. Likely, the feline had gone back to the snowy mountains where she'd been found.

When Atlanta spoke of her own experience with wormholes, Keita raised her brow in curiosity. All of that sounded quite a bit stranger than even here, or the lands of Victus that she had arrived from. "It sounds as if we were fortunate, then." was her comment to the latter, looking over to Chanjask as he began to speak as well.

She had known some of this story already, and now she knew more, and more importantly, how it was all connected. It saddened her, but did not cause her to think ill of her friend. The act sounded like it had been necessary, she could only imagine what sort of depraved wolf would do such a think as Chanjask's uncle had in the first place. It was no wonder that his mother had tried to kill her offspring.

"Perhaps it is time that we all cease talking and get some rest while we can." Was all she said in response, leaning over so she could give her friend a comforting nuzzle. She would still be there for him, even in this strange world. Oddly, it seemed that they had all perhaps gotten a second chance in this place, and perhaps they could make better use of it. She then closed her own eyes to sleep, provided no one had anything else to say to her.

So, their souls were broken, and they weren't so much splitting their soul as they were acquiring the missing piece? Choosing it from nature, as if stuffing an open hole with suitable substance? Even more interesting was the fact that he claimed they were broken still, here on this lands, as if these lands had made them worse off then when they'd been on their own place. Atlanta, too, had lost her wings and power over wind, but she hardly felt broken.

He'd killed his father? Atlanta shoved her face between her paws, so that she could roll her eyes in a way that no one could see. How many times she'd heard that story before. And what, had he also raised himself all alone in the wild as a tiny orphan and now was going to avenge his pack? She wanted to gag him to save herself the cliche story. But as he went on, the tale surprised her. In fact, it was hardly the cliche thing she thought it was, and all seemed right to her. Would she praise him for killing another? It was probably just better to say nothing at all, he was grouchy and testy enough as it was.

Did he just claim that his emotional issues made him physically limp? She felt that was absurd. Keita responded minimally to it all and suggested they sleep now. Only if she wasn't going to jump his bones and do the dirty right beneath them.

She stretched her yaws open and forced a yawn, making it sound larger than it was.

Atlanta shifted on the top of the thing, and curled her paws beneath her. In a few moments, she was asleep.
