It had been a long flight to get to this area, a ruins of what had once been a human civilization, or so the histories and legends told. Humans, rumored to be strange creatures that walked on two legs, upright, and apparently, built dens out of strange rock and material that was known as "steel". However, none of that truly mattered to Freyja, nor did it bother her overmuch. She was here, come to this place for a reason, and as she spied the obvious pathway of nature-overcome stone that seemed to lead into the strange area of ruined structures, she landed gently approximately at it's center, folding her multi-hued wings over her back as she looked around.
Silver eyes took in all of the strangeness, the ruined looking husks of . . . well she wasn't sure what sort of things those were scattered across the bridge, but they hardly looked safe! They seemed to menace at her, and looking back up to the sky, she said a quick prayer to Valkryi, hoping for the goddess' protection. After all, she had come here to seek out the Chosen, and it would not do to get frightened and run away like a wee pup. No, she believed that there was a higher power at work and it was for her to follow the plan.

It was unlike Lucien to be without a plan of action, yet here he was now, not knowing what to do with himself next. He had spent what seemed like ages wandering about. . . in search of something that caught his white eye. He had found little evidence of other settlements since his leaving though, and therefore had no one to bother. He had come across no other interesting wildlife either. Lucien was bored. And being bored was one of the few things he truly hated.
Yet today he would be alleviated of his boredom, it seemed. His travel had brought him to the edges of the city of legend. But he was not the only one. On the road alighted a graceful di'shei. At a distance, Lucien sized her up. She had some age to her, but had a young and wise aura. She did not carry herself as other di'shei seemed to, either. She was unusual in more ways than one.
Lucien approached her without a word, bright eyes unblinking. As he came closer, Lucien slowly put on a wide, warm smile. He wagged his tail slowly a few times, and swiveled his ears attentively in the she-wolf's direction.
"You seem out of place," he said with a soft chuckle.

She was just about to take off into what appeared to be the ruins of some strange settlement, when she heard the call towards her. Turning a delicate head, she smiled kindly at the Ubeli that she saw before her. The blue tones of his pelt were bright against the grayed and rotting debris, and were a welcome sight. Even though they may be different species, knowing that others had come here gave her hope that she would find the Chosen alive and still well.
"It is interesting that you say that, for indeed I am out of my comfort zone. However, I believe I have reason to be." She answered in patient tones, yet she was still kindly, almost serene in her tones. After all, this Ubeli, perhaps, was yet one that had been placed here by the goddess to ffer her some sort of aid. So she would not look away as if he were insignificant. "I am Freyja, Herald of Valkyri. It is quite pleasant to meet you. I had wondered if any others had found this place."

When she mentioned that she was a Herald, things made more sense to Lucien. He did not know much about the followers of Valkyri, but he certainly had heard of them. In his family, they were mostly made fun of. Religions were not common in Sverige, especially not to the ubeli, who would likely go to hell in any religious case.
"A Herald," Lucien repeated, almost a whisper, his eyes never wavering from the she-wolf.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you too," the mage replied, putting as much warmth in his smooth voice and smile that he possibly could, "And I do not think you need to worry about others finding this place. Many know of it, or ones like it. . ."
His voice trailed off as he looked past the Herald and off in to the distance. Since he was a pup, he had been told to stay away from there. It was unusual for anything to frighten his family, or ubeli in general. Being here now, he could not understand what was so frightening about it.
"And the shackles of old thinking are crumbling away."

She nodded to him as he reiterated what she had just said. Even if she was no longer with the tribe, she was still a speaker of the goddess, which made her a Herald, even so unattached as she currently was. However, that would soon change, once she found the Chosen, and she smiled once more at him, politely, as he continued on. It seemed this Ubeli was a bit thoughtful about entering the crumbling ruins as well.
"Well, perhaps that is true. It is said that there should be a new beginning coming for this world and all that live within it once a Chosen is found to lead them into the next era. It is that which I search for." She offered up in a short explanation of what she might be doing here. Looking from him back to the ruins, she inhaled, smelling the scents of decay and stillness of unuse. Her ears flicked as a slight breeze caused her long fur to shift slightly about.
"I take it you are going to cross over into the area? You are welcome to walk with me if you like." She offered politely, though she had a feeling that he might likely decline. It was well known that Ubeli were typically loners by nature.

All of what this she-wolf said sounded very strange and unusual to Lucien. Things changed and evolved. Life and its continuity depended on it. Without change there was stagnation. Stagnation lead to death. Lucien thought that this was common sense, and did not believe that a 'higher power' needed to relay such a message.
Foolish, the lot of them, he thought venomously. His face did not betray his thoughts. He continued smiling warmly at the Herald while he scrutinized her.
"I will not go with you into the city," Lucien declined politely with a small bow of his head, "I am not yet ready to venture there."
Although he was not afraid of it, he did not want to enter without someone else that. . . would benefit him in some form. Lucien did not feel that this Herald was the kind of friend that he wanted to have.
Even so, he was not yet ready to send her away. Lucien's curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "Who is the one you are looking for?"

Freyja nodded politely to the male, not bothered at all by the Ubeli's answer. Even though it was well said that travelling in a group was likely better than going alone, the Herald was not worried herself about the prospect. She was never alone so long as she held her faith close, no matter how others perceived it.
His question, though, was easy to answer. "I seek a Gourom by the name of Sorine. She is a refugee from a horrible fire that destroyed her original pack, and her fate is greater than she knows." She spoke with reverence, a sense of duty and faith ringing through her words. She smiled at the Ubeli and realized that she had not yet gotten his name. "If we are to part here, I would like to get your name, so I can remember you should I see you again."

A gourom? That's interesting. I never thought them capable of much other than. . . digging.
The thought deeply amused Lucien, and his smile threatened to turn in to cruel laughter. He could not imagine a gourom doing anything substantial, and certainly did not think that one could lead all of wolfkind in to a different era, as Freyja had said. They practically lost their minds if they were left alone for too long, and the sight of anything shiny immediately instilled feelings of deepest greed in them. How could something so small and crazed be expected to change the world?
What a fool, he thought again, What a waste of life.
"My name is Harlan," the lie was almost a sigh, and came easily off his lips. He eyed Freyja one final time, a brow lifting ever so slightly before he began to turn away.

She had looked back at the city once more as if trying to decide her best path. Obviously, she'd have to go over the strange bridge structure, with all of it's ruined husks of . . . well, whatever those had once been. When he spoke his name, she looked to him with another kind smile. "Harlan then. It has been pleasant speaking with you. I wish you good fortune in your journeys."
Freyja was nothing if not polite, even to an Ubeli whom she imagined may be simply humoring her for the short while they had spoken. With that, she nodded to him and turned to walk across the bridge, into the unknown. Her faith would guide her, and she knew that she would find what she sought.
