Blackened Earth
The small purple wolf had had enough of the city, and she faced the choice of whether to head further North, or head back down South. She sat at her gauche den near the bridge, getting a last look at her temporary home as she pondered on direction. "If I head back down the bridge, I would have to head East rather than West, I guess, since I've already been to Divum and want to explore everywhere before deciding where to settle. Maybe I will never settle... I love exploring" She shook herself as her train of thought took a haphazard turn, and moved her head to face the North. "Just looks like endless grey over there, but I wonder if I go far enough I'll get somewhere..." she wondered, then after a little while, she stood, shaking her head. "Going North I'd face a lot of obstacles. South-East it is." she barked aloud, and pointed her body towards the bridge.

Previously, she had trouble crossing the bridge, and had already found another safer route in her mind, so she took a little detour around the bridge to the river beach. She jogged across the sand, and waded in. While swimming forward, she made sure to swipe her spade-like paws as fast as she could, making herself a little speedier with her skill in the ability. Cyan eyes gazed at the bridge as she swam perpendicular to it, and the mere thought of crossing made her shudder, and feel nervous, drying up her throat. In response, she ducked her head down a little and opened her maw a tiny bit, swallowing some water as she swam along.

She soon reached the other side and climbed out of the rocky shore of the river to continue her journey, looking at the sun to direct herself, she made sure she was heading a different direction than she had been previously- that was all she cared about, really. Instead of following her original plan, however, she decided to follow the river up-stream for a while, therefore ensuring she wouldn't end up in the same place as she had arrived in Sverige. Deciding to put her six legs and skill for speed to good use, she practised loping as fast as she could for a little while, but soon, in the summer sun, her body succumbed to the heat, and she had to sit in the shade for a while.

While Vi was resting, the wind carried a strange scent that she had not smelled before, and her mind searched for a plausible explanation. "It's plant life, for sure, no animal smells like that, but it's strange. Really dry, like roots. Roots of a dead plant..." She thought, and hummed. Of course, the scent drew her to stand and follow her nose as she questioned the smell as it got stronger. "Almost smells like fire after it's died down, but it must be on a much bigger scale..." For just a moment, she halted, but then pushed forward, trotting quite fast towards the cause of the stench.

As she arrived, she found bits of dried up plants forming a vast floor, as far as she could see, apart from a few black spots that she couldn't work out. Heading towards the mysterious black patch, she tilted her head a little, taking a short sniffle at it. "Dead fire?" she thought aloud with a few barks. Perhaps this was the cause of that smell, since it got stronger here. Standing at the edge of the black stuff, she noticed it was slightly dipped inwards, like a crater. Gingerly, she reached out her paw to prod the substance. It wasn't hot, so she slid her paw along it, confirming that it was a fine black dust. "I feel like that's called ash... but not sure." she thought to herself. She wagged her tail, feeling excitment coarse through her. She felt like a real detective here.

She ran from one crater to the next, finding that they were all the same, until she stumbled upon a blackened object within one. It was about two wolf lengths, and Vi was a tiny bit taller than it, and could see that it was hollow, filled with stagnant rain water, which she used her water magic to take a small orb out of to get a closer sniff. "EW!" she yowled. She wasn't drinking that, but she's get closer to the strange object nonetheless. Nuzzling it with her nose turned out to be a bad idea, as the ash stuck to her nose and caused her to sneeze. After shaking herself off, she found that underneath was a grey, shiny surface. Lifting her forepaws up, she made two paw prints on it, and giggled to herself. Having no idea what it was, but having a feeling that it was from the city, she left it alone with a shrug. That stuff didn't interest her that much.

Scanning the rest of the strange land, she found something red in the distance, and squinted her eyes at it. It looked to be a lone flower, growing on the outskirts. A huge grin came upon her face, and she loped towards it.

Circling the flower, she noticed that it was a rose. She also noticed that it had something about it that wasn't quite right. Everything around it was dead, it should be too. Then a lightbulb went off in Vi's head. "Roses don't grow like that... it should have leaves... a bush." she told herself. Soon curiosity got the better of her, and she reached down to the root to pull it up, only to find it had no roots at all, and seemed to have already been tampered with. Coming to the conclusion that someone had put it here, the Gourom looked around for others. There was nowhere to hide, and she could see no one, so she decided to take it with her on her journey to see if it died. So, off she went, heading South.
