[ PRIVATE ]

      Spring had sprung and with it the return of flowers and various grasses. Though it hadn't been it had seemed as though this change had occurred overnight. He loved the way the earth felt during this time of year, everything teamed with life and vitality. Ever since his strange encounter with that big horned creature when his paws got all sticky he had the hardest time keeping them clean. He had never noticed how much he hated his paws to become dirty until this mutation happened. With the growth of all the new underbrush, this problem was getting even more annoying. 

      Sijor popped into his mind and a goofy grin spread across his muzzle. He knew she was skilled in earth magic, more so than himself. He just didn't have time to study much. He would much rather explore. That was something they had in common, him and Sijor, they both loved to explore. Before he realized it, he was daydreaming about the two of them exploring all around the world. There was no telling what the two of them could find! He grinned like a goon and found himself padding along in the direction of her den. 

     As he got closer he began to panic, he really didn't have any reason to come visit her...and he didn't know her well enough to just stop by... He began to think more and more about it, trying to think of something that sounded reasonable but still allowed him to see her. Some leaves and grasses were stuck to the bottom of his paw adding to the frustration and he began shaking and scraping the objects off. 'That's It!' he thought to himself. He would ask her to help him with his sticky paws. That would give him a reason to talk to her, not that she wasn't sociable. 

    He padded up to her den, and sounded a greeting at the entrance and waited outside. He had been able to get most of the stuff off his front right paw but intentionally left the other paws dirty, that way she would have something to work on. While he waited he thought he'd better smooth down the feathers that adorned the top of his head, and chest. Without thinking, he began rubbing his paw across his head and a few aqua feathers were plucked out and now stuck to his paw. "Aww man..." he mumbled under his breath. He sat there staring at his paw and the feathers that now stuck to it.

The small hybrid wolf was often out exploring, although she did tend to come back fairly frequently. After all, wolves visited Orior somewhat regularly, and she didn't want to miss any visitors! Most wolves were nice to talk to, and fun to hang out with, and it did fill the void that had been left by her bestest friend Shiloh, having disappeared suddenly. Sijor knew that if she was too far away from others for too long, she'd start thinking about how sad she was that he wasn't around anymore, and that simply wouldn't do. So her wandering kept to maybe only a day or two at a time before she was back around in the packlands. Granted, her extreme skill at speed helped that along greatly, so it wasn't like she was ever unable to get back quick enough.

This morning, when Skye approached, she had been napping in her den, enjoying the small breeze that wriggled in through the entrance. Her den was with the roots of a fairly decent sized tree, although nowhere near as massive as her mother's. She kept herself fairly low-key, although it was quite apparent by the many colorful wildflowers that grew up all around the tree's base that it was her specific tree. Sijor enjoyed flowers, not just for their scent but also for their lovely colors that they could become. The greeting woke her up quite swiftly and she smiled brightly at the call, stretching a bit before scooting herself swiftly outside to grin happily at her new friend, tail wagging. "Hai! Did you need something . . . ?" She started, and then realized he was staring at his paw, and the feather that stuck out of it.

A snorted laugh left her muzzle as she realized that the feather was clearly from his own body and it was somehow stuck to his paw.He looked vaguely dismayed so she quickly stopped her laugh and poked her nose close to it inquisitively, blinking. "I don't think I've seen a wolf get their own feather stuck to their paw! Is that like a magic or something?" Maybe it was, surely Sijor knew there were things out there that she hadn't heard of before. Maybe this was something new!

      If wolves could blush, his cheeks would be burning bright red at the moment. At the sound of her voice, he snapped his head up with an expression that resembled a combination of embarrassment and surprise. As soon as he thought about saying something his mouth went dry but on for a moment. "...hehe..hey Sijor.." A sheepish grin spread across his face, "Yeah...funny story actually, my paws...are...err...sticky all of a sudden." He stumbled over his words, and uncharacteristically couldn't ramble on and on and over-explain like always. Instead, he found a lack of words and a silence between each one that made him a bit tense. 

 
  'You are so blowing it! Relax! It isn't like you've never spoken to her before.' he told himself. That didn't change the ball of nerves in the pit of his stomach. Why did he feel this way around her? She always smelt of flowers, such an earthly beautiful scent. Was he maybe allergic somehow and that was what caused the reaction? Whatever the reason, none of the side effects were bad enough to prevent him from seeking her face, in fact, they almost urged him forward. Strange.

She blinked in amazement, not even noticing any of his facial expressions, as her own eyes were locked on the strange occurrence. What had he just said? His paws were now . . . sticky? Shaking her head, she shook her head in wonder at the very idea. "I've seen a lot of weird mutations on wolves, and stuff! Even two heads! This is just . .. what good does that even do? I mean, it looks painful or something!" She offered up in her rapid-fire barks, looking back up at him with a curious expression. She wondered how a wolf could even deal with having paws that were that sticky, she knew that sticky things tended to catch up all the dirt and loose things around, which these seemed to as well. "Did you . . . do anything to make it happen?" Maybe there was something he could undo about it, something that they could fix. She didn't know if she could do it though, maybe her mum would have to. However, suddenly, she had another idea.

"Ooohhhhh. Do you think that they would stick to, like a tree? Like, if they would help you climb it?" Was her sudden revelation, leaving behind the fact that surely, this was an unwanted mutation, but perhaps it could do something cool! At least, until they were able to figure it out, maybe they could have some fun with it. She beamed brightly at him, wondering if he'd be up for the idea. He still seemed quite bummed about the whole thing and she honestly didn't like to see other wolves so sad.

      He chuckled at her, her energy helped to balance out his bumbling awkwardness. "Well, it's more annoying than anything really." He said, though sometimes if a stick stuck the wrong way it would stick him a little. He smiled brightly, but that was more of a reaction to speaking to her. "Annnd, I don't really do anything to make it happen, it just sorta..well..sticks." To prove his point he pressed his foot against some loose twigs and debris and held it back up to show her. "See?"

The mention of the tree made him stumble over his words once again. "Funny you should mention it... Actually yeah..I can stick to a tree. Probably better than I wish. When it first started I tried to wipe it off on a tree and next thing I knew I was stuck to the side of it!" As he spoke he realized he was rambling and this was not the impression he wanted to make but his mouth kept going anyway. "Next thing I know there is this big...big...thing with antlers like this" He rared back on his hind legs and stretched his forepaws as far as they would go through that wasn't far due to the awkward angle. "And it made this really loud sound...It was weird..." The absurdity of it all made him laugh at the entire situation all over again. He decided to leave his fall out of the story.

She watched as her friend demonstrated just what happened when he touched things with his paw. The idea that it was just something that occurred without any prompting was fascinating and her widened gaze was clear to tell that story. "Woah. That's so neat, do you think that's something that other wolves have or is it just you? I've never seen something like that, I figured it had to be magic." Was her utterance at that, nodding as she listened to the rest of his story about how he'd come upon this strange ability. She giggled again at the sight of him spreading his paws, which now had all sorts of debris on them, out to the side to show how large the antlers on the creature had been.

"What do you think it was? Mom has told me about these big deer creatures that are pretty rare that live in the forest. Skickra is what she said they were. They don't seem to like to hang around other creatures though so I haven't seen one." Not that it bothered her much, to be honest, but it was cool that Skye had seen one if that was what it was. However, she still wondered if he could make it up the tree. "But before it showed up, did you feel like you could have climbed up the tree? Are they that sticky?" A wolf climbing a tree like that, without using magic like her mother did, would be really neat!

      "So that's what that thing was. Well...maybe...I don't really know for sure, I have never seen anything like it." As the two continued to speak, his nerves seemed to calm a bit. It helped that she was easy to talk to, and she genuinely seemed interested.

Her questions interested him, was this a mutation? Was it just him? "I...err...I don't really know...I don't know if it's just me or what it is actually. I might be able to climb the tree..." he looked at the tree that she had made her home. It was different than the one he had gotten stuck on, but that shouldn't matter much right? The thought of getting stuck again kept him from immediately trying though.

A grin spread across his face, "Hey, maybe if I get stuck again one of those Sicky things might show up." and let out a chuckle.

Sijor grinned encouragingly at him, hoping he would try and climb the tree. When he looked as if he was considering it, her tail wagged a bit faster and her ears twitched with interest. Then, he spoke of the deer creature thing and she nodded, hoping that would seal the deal. "Yeah! If that does work, how cool would that be? And you know, I know my mum knows about them because she knows like, everything, but I don't even think she's been close to one." She honestly didn't remember her mother ever telling her that she'd really been too close to one of those deer creatures, and how cool would it be if she could get close to one and see it better?

But that was beside the point, for right now, she urged her new friend on, hopping a bit on all four paws as she circled around him and barked merrily. "I can make the earth move, and the trees and stuff, you know? So if you try and climb it and start to fall, I'll just use my magic to help you, ok?" She said with her eyes sparkling with interest and excitement at the idea. Sitting herself then near the base of the tree, she nodded to him to say he could try.

It was clear to him that Sijor wanted him to climb the tree. At the sight of her smile and the happy thump of her tail, all evidence of apprehension left him and he confidently strode towards the tree. "I guess I could try," he barked, his mind finished the thought where his voice failed, 'for you.'. The tree was much larger than the one he had accidentally attempted to climb before, that might make it easier.

He froze at the tree, he had accidentally stuck that time. Would it happen the same way this time? Was there something special he needed to do? He glanced over his shoulder at Sijor one last time and flashed a bit of a nervous smile. 'Okay paws....please don't embarrass me in front of her' the thought, and put his front paws on the base of the tree.

Last time he had been too afraid to pull his paw away and hadn't been able to free it from the bark. When he had pulled he had been scared to hurt himself so at the first sign of resistance he had stopped. This time, however, he closed his eyes and pretended he was walking. More like walking through sticky mud. A gentle shluck, shluck, shluck, sounded as he continued up the tree, but his eyes remained closed.

Sijor beamed happily, seeing her friend take up the challenge of the tree climb. She hadn't thought he would do it there for a moment, but it seemed that something she'd said had given him some courage perhaps? Maybe he was afraid of falling, but she felt like she had that handled. After all, she could bend the earth to her whim, and if she needed to, she'd grow out a branch to catch him before he fell to the ground. Watching with widened eyes, she saw him begin to climb up the tree, like he was just walking and could not contain her excitement.

"You're doing it! Really walking up the tree! You should open your eyes and look, it's pretty cool!" She barked happily, running in a circle around the tree to see him from all angles. It was just so weird! She'd never even seen her mother really, climb up a tree in that manner before, Keita usually just made a branch come down and hoist her up. Sijor did the same from time to time, and she'd seen other things climb trees but it didn't even seem that Skye had to dig his claws in or anything. "What does it feel like? Is it really cool??"
