A smooth, yellow, liquid-like custard with vanilla taste and smell. A typical Dutch desert, "vanillevla" differs from traditional English custards but I cannot for the life of me explain it because you all don't have anything more similar, I'm afraid.

Alignment

Pour the milk and cream in a saucepan and mix. Cut the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape the marrow out with the flat side of the blade. Stir the vanilla marrow into the mixture of cream and milk and heat over low heat. Then leave for 15 minutes. Withdraw on low heat. Separate the eggs and beat the yolks in a heatproof bowl with the sugar approx. 10 minutes until the mixture is thick and creamy and the sugar is dissolved. Stir in Ã‚Â¾ of the hot milk mixture to the egg mixture. Pour back into the pan, stirring with the remaining milk mixture. Then put on very low heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Keep stirring, for the mixture may start to cook. Bind it until a beautiful, thin custard is made. Pour the custard through a sieve into a clean bowl to remove any lumps. Let the custard cool down completely, stirring occasionally well.
